Pol Roger's NV offering is looking fresh with gently biscuity aromas and peach and nectarine fruits. The palate offers plenty of flesh in an attractive, easygoing style. Bright and pleasing.
The NV Brut Réserve, based on the 2012 vintage and disgorged after four years on the lees in July 2017, is very clear, precise and fresh on the nose, with bright fruit and delicate brioche notes. Blending equal parts of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay from 30 different crus and with 25% reserve wines, this is a clear, fresh, tight and finessed Champagne with an intense, powerful but also filigreed finish. This is an impressive, taut and persistent "White Foil" for many opportunities. (SR)
A firm version, with a smoke-tinged overtone and subtle notes of poached pear and currant fruit. Pastry and lemon meringue details ride the fine and creamy mousse. Elegant. (AN)
Pale yellow. Toasty melon and white peach on the nose, with orange zest and dusty minerals emerging with air. Lively, mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit flavors show good palate-coating intensity without any excess weight. The clinging finish displays a subtle floral quality and repeating orange and melon notes. (JR)
This is a well-balanced, ripe wine in the producer's rich house style. A brighter, more mineral crispness and acidity also come through strongly in this bottling. The aftertaste brings together a mineral texture and full yellow and apple fruits. *Editors' Choice* (RV)
