Tasting Notes

This is the second wine of Leoville-Las Cases. Writing in the Wine Advocate, Robert Parker has said, "The quality level of the second wine of Leoville-Las Cases is unquestionably better than some of Bordeaux's famed 1855 classification's second- and third-growths," while Neal Martin agrees: "Others may disagree, but I would rate the second wine Clos du Marquis as the best in Bordeaux. The wine has a long history, initiated in 1904 under the aegis of Théophile Skawinski with the 1902 vintage, portending the proliferation of second wines in the 1980's. The wine is sourced from a petit clos located at the entrance of the town of Saint Julien where the vines were too young to produce fruit of sufficient quality for the Grand Vin." (11/2006)
