K&L Notes

This is a real-deal Champagne from Courteron, a village in the Aube department of Champagne, closer to Chablis than the city of Reims! Their methods are as Burgundian as their location. They practice biodynamic farming, which is the strictest form of organic viticulture. The assemblage of several Pinot Noir vines from different years results in a very expressive and intense Champagne. Fruity and delicate, this elegant and long-lasting Champagne is classic, smooth and quite rich in style. Mr. Fleury's obsession with quality shows through in the wine; it is the most exciting all-Pinot Noir blanc de noirs in our stock. The dosage is very low--one of the driest Champagnes we have--with a wonderful black-cherry-fruit quality that reminds us that it is all Pinot! It is long and refreshing and very well balanced. I was all ready a Fleury freak before I tasted the new BdN, but this just solidified what we already new. Fleury is a world class producer of Champagne and should recognized as one of the very best. A beautiful honeyed hue. A stupendous nose of bright candied cherries, honeysuckle, and zesty citrus. Very racy on the palate, ultra clean and precise. The style is so drinkable here, but I would love to see what would happen in the cellar for a few years. Stock up while you can.

This bottle has the best texture of any non-vintage wine in this price range, with perfect streamers and elegant creaminess. The brioche, custard and meyer lemon aromatics carry through on the palate, yet the finish is all about freshness. If you haven’t tried this in a while, you should. It is one of the most impressive wines they make, and a great flagship… This is not “entry level” stuff!

The NV Fleury Carte Rouge is a truly exceptional bottle of Champagne. Anyone skeptical of how great biodynamic wines can be, need to try the Carte Rouge. This NV cuvee elegantly expresses the balance between delicate yet rich. The nose is intense with aromatics of strawberry, black cherry and hints of toasted yeast. The surprise of the Carte Rouge is how low the dosage is in comparison to how ripe and expressive the fruit shows throughout the entire length of the Champagne.

Consistently one of my favorite direct import producers in our champagne section- Fleury makes complex sparkling wine from 100% pinot noir vines. The result is a rich and decadent sparkler that doesn't sacrifice minerality or brightness for its lush texture.
Top Value! Drink from 2013 to 2018

Every time I try this wine, I wonder why I don't drink more of it! Apple, toast and mineral make this champagne from our friends at Fleury perfectly balanced and well-suited to food. Grown organically and biodynamically, the care that is taken with each bottle will shine through. Perfect gift or party bubbly for the holidays!

This extraordinary 100% Pinot Noir sparkling wine comes to us from the Aube, the southernmost part of the Champagne region. In the early 1900s, when the boundaries of the Champagne appellation were being formally drawn, it seemed for a time that producers in the Aube would be excluded by their brother growers to the north. They took to the streets in protest and French troops had to be called in to quell the riots. Because we are buying these wines directly in France you can enjoy them today at a price that won't provoke civil unrest. Why would you drink anything else?

This is one of my flavorite Champagnes now in stock. The Fleury Carte Rouge is full bodied, juicy and round, yet dry. It is clean and elegant and pure joy in a glass. It will taste good alone but will also go well with lighter foods.

In his unwavering maxim that "we leave the earth to our children," Jean-Pierre Fleury was the very first winegrower in Champagne to adapt strict biodynamic principles and techniques in his steeply-sloping, calcareous vineyards near the northern village of Courteron. His exquisite Blanc de Noirs is an homage to the perfectability of Pinot Noir under his meticulous stewardship, and certainly one of the finest, long-lasting champagnes we carry at any price. Hand-crafted from select vintages, the Carte Rouge is emblematic, dry and complex, with a well-developed gamut of flavors from brioche and beeswax to cherry and acacia. Hard to say what 'not' to drink this with, but I guarantee you will be reaching for another glass after tasting this redolent, rewarding sparkler.

Fleury is one of K&L staff members favorite Champagne producers hands down. His wines are all of absolute top notch quality. This bottle is full of crisp cherry on the nose and weighty palate. The finish is quite dry yet lingers until the next sip. Fantastic.

Fascinating nose of caramel, toffee, some cocoa powder and a surprising whiff of pain-au-chocolat and cherries that brought back memories of a breakfast on a back street cafe around the Champs Elysées. A great wine not only for a very elegant apéritif, but also to enjoy with omelets, eggs Benedict, anything salmon, truffles (black and white), lobster and prawns, or even blue or goat cheeses.

This is one of my all-time favorite Champagnes, suitable for any occasion. The nose offers a medley of berries and baked puff pastry. The palate is full and round, with ample fruit supported by balanced acidity. The finish is very dry and long, with lingering berry and mineral notes. Divine!
