Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 10-Year On horizontal. This has a relatively light but feminine bouquet, earthy notes at first, later tightly coiled blackberry and cedar, briary and pencil box. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry that marries beautifully with the fine tannins and depth of flavour. This is more primal than its peers, but wonderful delineation and purity with a caressing, silky smooth finish. Utterly seductive: this Pichon Baron is finally coming into its own. Tasted March 2011. (NM)
This is complex and beautiful now with liquorice and currant, with delicate sweet tobacco character on the nose and palate. Medium-to-full body with subtle, entrancing flavors and textures. So right now. Almost a soya undertone to the subtle fruit.
Medium red-ruby. Complex nose melds currant, cedar, minerals and tobacco. Suave entry, then sweet, dense and supple, with harmonious acids giving lift to the wine's flavors. At once full and juicy. Finishes with very fine tannins and excellent length. (ST)
Dark-colored, with floral and lanolin aromas with hints of fruit. Full-bodied, with chunky tannins and a long finish. A bit short and austere. Needs bottle age to show its full potential. (JS)
Bright crimson. Sweet, toasty and a bit obvious on the nose. But it delivers pleasure in spades, even if not an enormous amount of subtlety. Just very slightly drying on the finish.
