Smells refined and oaky, showing aromas of ripe currants, chocolate, herbs and white pepper. Smooth, polished and dry, with rich tannins. Drinks well now.
Hard-charging ripeness is hard to ignore here, but, despite its slightly pruney edges and undisguised heat, this wine is saved by its generous blackberry fruit, its rich oak and a genuine sense of complexity that is uncommon in such very ripe wines. A tad on the soft side and not exceedingly tannic, it is best tagged for service over the next several years with hearty meals featuring well-seasoned meats on bone.
Dark, firm and juicy, with rich plum, wild berry, blackberry and perfumed floral aromas. It tightens up on the finish, where the tannins show their muscle, ending with a hint of greenness and mocha.
