94 points Wine Spectator: "Extraordinary. Dark in color, with gorgeous flavors and rich and exotic aromas of black cherry, fresh roasted coffee, mocha, currant and spice. Fills out on the palate to reveal uncommon richness, depth and dimension, and has a tremendous aftertaste." (08/01) 93 points Stephen Tanzer: "Full ruby-red. Wild aromas of black cherry, strawberry, bitter chocolate and smoked meat, along with a strong oak component. Rich, lush and highly concentrated; creamy and expansive. Fills the mouth with sweet flavors of strawberry, mocha and sugar-cured tobacco. Finishes with lush, thoroughly ripe tannins and excellent persistence." (May/June 01) 92-95 points Robert Parker: "The dark ruby-colored 1998 Pinot Noir Camp Meeting Ridge Vineyard's (100 cases) smell's akin to a top vintage of Grands Echezeaux or Richebourg. Notes of black raspberries, blackberries, flowers, and minerals jump from the glass. While it does not have as much power as the Hirsch Vineyard, it reveals a velvety sweetness and unmistakable individuality and distinctiveness. It will be one of Kistler's more showy efforts."
