Among the many rich and deeply filled standouts of this issue, Mount Veeder's Reserve clearly delivers more overall. Its broad, wonderfully expressive aromas are layered with notes of cassis, dusty soil smells and lots of rich, caramelly oakiness, and its powerful, highly extracted flavors exhibit the same deep sense of concentration and range. It is a very big wine to be sure, and its gritty young tannins dissuade early drinking, but its riveting depth and show-stopping richness guarantee it a long and very illustrious life.
This fabulous mountain Cabernet blend is hefty in tannins, but it’s so delicious and balanced, it’s totally drinkable now. Massive black currant flavors penetrate the palate and last forever on the finish. Oak adds smoky, spicy complexities. Cellar a case of this wine through 2015 or so, opening one bottle a year to experience its evolution. *Cellar Selection*
Dark, rich, intense and concentrated, with dense currant, mineral, earth and cedary-sage flavors. Excellent structure, depth and range of flavors. Keeps a tight, finishing with firm, ripe tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. (JL)
