*Cellar Selection* This extraordinary wine possesses an enormous wealth of black cherry, blueberry, cassis and espresso flavors, wrapped in fine, well-toasted oak. Has that rare quality of elegance, in which all the parts work together in harmony. Thoroughly dry, it’s marked by a firm, astringent tannic structure now, but is a certain cellar candidate.
Smooth, rich and seductive, with impeccable balance, great depth and lots of finesse and flavor. The layers of plum, black cherry, mocha, spice and wild berry flavors unfold gracefully, keeping a tight focus and fanning out, giving it a long, supple aftertaste.
Chuck Wagner’s 2003 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon comes from such appellations as Rutherford, St. Helena, Atlas Peak, Mt. Veeder and Napa Valley. It is blended after 16 months of aging rather than before, which is an unusual practice. A dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by attractive, sexy aromas of jammy cassis, plums and spice. The wine offers plenty of richness and power as well as supple, silky tannins and an opulent personality. (RP)
Good ruby-red. Currant, plum, mocha, cola and sweet oak scents on the nose; showed blackberry and cassis with aeration, as well as a whiff of oak char. At once juicy and creamy in the mouth, with firm acids framing the supple red fruit and tobacco flavors. The sweet finish features fine-grained, building tannins.
