This densely, ruby/purple-colored wine possesses an intense, complex fragrance of blackcurrants, smoke, spices, and vague underbrush notes. Full-bodied and ripe, with a velvety texture and gobs of black-cherry and blackcurrant fruit, this silky, opulently styled wine is already drinking well, yet it is capable of lasting for 10-15 years. Recent efforts from Pahlmeyer have suggested that some of the hard, tough tannins that were part of the rich style Pahlmeyer achieved with earlier releases have been tamed. There has been no loss of richness, but the smoother, riper tannin is a noteworthy achievement. This is good news as effective tannin management is often ignored by many Cabernet producers.
Dense and chewy, but it turns supple, fanning out with currant, herb, tobacco and leathery notes. Ample tannins on the finish suggest short-term cellaring, but you can drink it now if you like big, rich wines.
