Give this time for the dark roast coffee scent of the tannins to subside, and the fruit develops more clarity, moving to an undertone of black cherry, then a fresh bolt of cassis. The fruit feels sumptuous against the bristle of the tannin. Hewitt is a benchland vineyard in Rutherford next to Niebaum-Coppola. Tom Rinaldi, winemaker at Provenance, makes the wine here. This is one to cellar...
Sumptuously intense fruit, fine toasted oak, and lush, smooth tannins all come together in this dramatic wine. It’s a wonder of modern Napa Valley, offering delicious cassis, chocolate and cherry flavors, with enough acidity for balance...
It will never be accused of being elegant, but this powerhouse Cabernet wins very high honors for its unstinting richness and riveting potency. Very ripe and highly oaked, yet always fixed on well-defined Cabernet currants, it is a weighty and positively mouthfilling wine with layer upon layer of extracted fruit, spice, and loamy earth complexities. It carries considerable tannin and demands patient aging, and, while it will not hit its stride for at least another five years, it all but guarantees further growth and improvement for a decade or more.
Has gained and is fun to drink. Rich and extracted, to the edge of syrupy, featuring pure, ripe crème de cassis, currant, blackberry and lead pencil flavors. Young and potent, yet very tannic, dry and chewy. (Web Only—2012)
