Complex and complete, with ripe currant, spice box, cedar and blackberry fruit. Tight, firm and focused on the palate, this is deeply fruity and ends with ripe, structured tannins.
Four impressive Cabernets from founding partners and friends, Michael Karl Trujillo and Bryan Lawrence Henry, include the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a juicy, succulent mid-palate, silky tannin, and a judicious touch of spicy oak. (RP)
There is much to like about this fairly gutsy, big-bodied offering, and it is hard not to be immediately drawn in by its deep and dense aromas of pure cassis and very rich oak. Its flavors, too, are brimming with ripe currants and sweet, barrel spice, but all of its richness comes at the cost of constricting tannins and a slight edge of heat. Its drying astringency is only a problem in terms of near-term consumption, however, and there is plenty in place to raise high expectations for an enjoyable, full-flavored wine some five or six years hence.
