A new offering, the 2001 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard (14% alcohol) possesses an evolved nose of sweet blackberry liqueur intermixed with spice and sweet oak. Surprisingly, the palate is closed, and the finish hard and tannic. While this effort does not appear to have the potential of its siblings, there is still a lot to it. (RP)
Dense, tight and firmly tannic, with a firm yet narrow band of wild berry, spice, mineral and fresh earth, it turns ruggedly tannic on the chalky finish. (JL, Web-2004)
