The rich 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Rancho del Oso exhibits oodles of fruit, full body, and lush opulence as well as length.
Deep saturated ruby. Vinous, complex nose combines currant, bitter chocolate, fresh herbs and tobacco. Then sweet, fat, lush and deep, with a surprisingly pliant texture for Howell Mountain cabernet. Very sweet currant, plum, chocolate and spice flavors. Finishes with thoroughly ripe, suave tannins and terrific lingering sweetness. Large-scaled but quite approachable. A superb showing today.
*Cellar Selection* Another tight, tough single-vineyard Cab from Beringer, one likely to age well. The balance is fine, the fruit is ripe and properly varietal, and the wine has a distinguished feeling in the mouth. It’s just that those tannins are so hard. Better after 2007, and should drink well for at least another 10 years after that.
Intense, with vibrant currant, blackberry and wild berry fruit that's compact and tightly wound, with a firm band of tannins. Best to decant. Best from 2006 through 2011. (Web-2005)
