K&L Notes

Turley Wine Cellars makes thirty-four wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs (Turley sticks to this alternate spelling). By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all natural yeasts in the fermentations. This is really a complex field blend from the Napa Valley old-school, which includes some true Syrah. According to the winery: "The Library Vineyard is one of the most unique vineyards in California. Planted between 1880 and 1920 directly behind the St. Helena Public Library, the vineyard is very varietally diverse. Primarily Petite Syrah vines mix with myriad others, including Peloursin, Cinsault, Syrah, Mission, Alicante Bouche, Grand Noir, Carignan, Grenache, and Zinfandel. There are also a number of white grapes, such as Muscat Alexandria, Muscadelle, Burger, and Green Hungarian. We pick them all together to make a wine truly expressive of the vineyard."
