Medium+ lemon-straw colour. There's a touch more vibrancy here on the nose than with the 1985, beginning with an abundance of toasty /yeasty notes and leading to complex suggestions of ginger-nut biscuit, marzipan, lemongrass and a whiff of chalkboards. Elegantly styled providing a fair amount of bubbles while the palate gives crisp acidity that compliments the remaining citrus nuances. The finish is long leaving pleasantly lingering savoury/meaty hints and plenty of chalky minerality.
All of the qualities found in the original release are amped up in the 1976 Dom Pérignon Œnothèque (Disgorged 2003). Unctuous and deep the 1976 Œno is a real powerhouse, but all of that intensity is nicely countered by the wine’s brightness and energy. This is another stellar release in the Œnothèque (P2) series.
