A tannic beast is the 1999 Petite Sirah Barcini Vineyard. The wine is a dense purple color, with notes of earth, smoke, licorice, and black fruits. Quite sweet on the attack, full-bodied, with rustic tannin in the finish, this wine will require 5-6 years of cellaring and keep for up to two decades. (RP)
Healthy ruby. Sweet, sappy aromas of crystallized berries, smoked meat, mocha and iron. Complex and medium-bodied, with leather and licorice flavors currently dominating dark berry and cherry fruit. Doesn't have quite the middle-palate fat and texture to buffer the chewy tannins, which give the lingering finish a slight dryness... the complexity of the wine suggests that this is a highly promising site for this variety.
