Its extraordinary perfume of crushed rocks, flowers, black raspberries, and sweet cherries is followed by a dense, medium to full-bodied, rich, moderately tannic, long, persistent wine that will be even better with 1-2 more years of bottle age. (RP)
The usual varietal themes of ripe cherries are overlain in this attractive offering's deeply filled aromas by complexing touches of dusty rose, cedar and cream, and, in the mouth, the wine fully lives up to it promise with expansive and equally deep flavors of juicy fruit buttressed by finely fit, wholly complementary oak. While not at all tough or tannic, it firms up just enough at the end to suggest that in a couple of years, this good thing will be even better.
Good ruby color. Very dark aromas of black fruits, violet and licorice; pinot meets syrah. Intensely flavored and muscular; just this side of too powerful for its own good. Finishes with tight, slightly astringent tannins. Very typical of Sonoma Coast pinot. This will require extended bottle aging. (ST)
There’s more acidity in this wine than most Williams Selyem Pinots. Take a sip, and the flavor of cherries explodes on the palate, along with oak. Compared to the winery’s ’03s, it seems sweet, almost cloying, on the finish.
Dark, rich and fleshy, with a mix of clove, wild berry and black cherry fruit that's well-proportioned. Finishes with firm tannins.
