Full medium ruby. Like a zinfandel syrup on the nose, with a penetrating peppery quality lifting the cassis fruit. Superconcentrated wine with terrific fruit, given shape and thrust by strong acids. Finishes firmly tannic and long, with repeating flavors of cassis and pepper. This will likely be long-lived.
The 2003 Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard exhibits a huge nose of crushed black raspberries, cherries, pepper, and spice box. Full-bodied, unctuously-textured, rich, decadently ripe, and fruit-driven, it should be consumed over the next 4-5 years.
Serves up a tasty mix of black cherry, boysenberry and raspberry jam notes that push ripeness to the edge without going overboard. Shows some heat on the finish.
