91 points from Wine Spectator: "Rich yet sleek. Red currant, bell pepper and mocha aromas lead to complex, well-balanced loam, blueberry and cedar flavors that linger toward compact, ripe tannins. Drink now through 2013. 4,100 cases made." (Nov. 30, 2008) Chappellet's 2005 Napa Valley Merlot comes from the Estate's Pritchard Hill Vineyard. Aged for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels (40% new) with small amounts of cabernet sauvignon, malbec, petit verdot and cabernet franc added for structure and complexity. The resulting wine's nose is reminiscent of cherry-vanilla cola with lots of sweet fruit on the palate. Well-balanced acidity and tannins.
