Eric & Lèia Monné purchased vineyard land here in 1995 and began by producing fruit that for several years was sold off to the local co-op. Building on his experience at regional superstar, Clos des Fées, and driven by a passionate belief in organic and sustainable stewardship of their vineyards and the wine they desired to produce and to consume, their conversion to organic production in the vineyard, shunning the use of herbicides, insecticides and chemical fertilizers, certainly ran counter to the accepted practices at that time. Their Saint Bart red is a blend of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache grown in granite, schist and gneiss. Unbelievable concentration with lovely forward, spicy fruit, this robust number is both dense and modern, and shows a solid mineral backbone. Matured for approximately 15 months in oak barrels of 2 to 3 years in age, and bottled without filtration, this is named after a small chapel near a parcel of 100 year old Carignan vines. 11-14% abv.
