Very firm, very straight—the severe side of Chambolle-Musigny. The tannins are dense, giving a wine that has a solid fruit structure, coffee and licorice flavors, very dark in character, concentrated.
Full medium red. Reticent but pure aromas of blackberry and black cherry. Sweet, supple and fine-grained, with sexy sweetness and a chocolatey richness to the blackberry and mineral flavors. Dense and long on the back. This is 13.2%, with just a bit of chaptalization.
A riper and more elegant nose of crushed red berries and crushed mineral nuances that can also be found on the firm, detailed and vibrant middle weight flavors where the wood treatment presently rounds off some of the detail on the finish but overall, this is balanced and admirably refined. (Drink starting 2013)
Lightly-cooked black raspberry, spruce resin, and hints of caramel and chocolate render the Jadot 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes memorably distinctive and fit into a broader, rounder, more obviously rich but less dynamic performance than characterizes most of the Jadot 2006s. There is more sensual but less intellectual appeal here than in the corresponding Les Fuees, which I find in its dramatically contrasting way equally striking. But you can wallow in this Baudes now, as well as enjoy it 6-8 years from now.
