With its fruit being a touch more refined and less "in your face", and the more typical spice of Zinfandel replaced by cola and briary elements that drift in the direction of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is medium-full in body and nicely balanced from front to back. Sweet, slightly caramelly oak fills it out, but leaves it focus clearly intact, and light-medium tannins firm it up and give it a bit of aging potential.

Dullish dark red. Aromas of redcurrant, iron and mocha. Supple red fruit and iron flavors lifted by a peppery element; suggestions of exotic fruits. Nicely plump and gentle zinfandel, from a combination of the true small-berry zin and primitivo. Drink this now with carne asada, suggests Barrett.
