Crimson-purple; a beautifully balanced and utterly seamless array of red and black fruits, without a scintilla of confection character; lovely now or in 10 years.
Blended of 52% Shiraz, 30% Grenache and 18% Mourvedre, 2006 Plexus displays pronounced notes of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate, game, earth, licorice and allspice. A black cherry character really comes through on the palate, supported by crisp acid and a firm level of finely grained tannins. The finish is long and opulently fruited.
Ruby-red. Pinot-like red fruits, minerals and flowers on the nose, with a gentle baking spice undertone. Sappy and fresh, with vivid raspberry, cherry and smoky mineral flavors. Gains weight and sweetness with air but maintains vivacity, finishing clean, brisk and juicy.
The 2006 Plexus is showing a little more grit and obvious tannin than the ’04 and ’05 did at a similar stage, but still features plenty of dark, savory notes of cassis, coffee and chocolate, with a bit of an herbal streak thrown in for complexity. Drink 2010 - 2016.
Firm in texture, with a raucous feel to the black cherry, plum and exotic spice flavors. The oak character comes up strong on the finish. Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best after 2009.
