The 2004 Syrah Thompson Vineyard offers attractive beefy, blackberry, currant, and damp earth characteristics, medium to full body, moderately high tannin, outstanding purity, and very good depth and texture. Consume it over the next 10-12+ years. 93+ (RP)
Here’s a big, rich, densely layered Syrah, the kind of wine that Cab or Merlot lovers who are looking for alternatives should discover. It’s full-bodied, dry and oaky, yet with its cherry, chocolate, fig and licorice flavors, offers a whole different flavor profile. Brilliiant with pork tenderloin with a fruity sauce or stuffing.
Inky purple. Ripe blackberry and blueberry on the nose, with gentle smokiness and pungent herbs adding complexity. Ripe and fleshy, with deep dark berry liqueur flavors and a distinctly chewy texture. There's nothing hard about this syrah but it has serious structure and power too. Finishes long and sweet, with the smoky quality repeating. (ST)
First aromas of blackberries and creamy oak get a refined boost from suggestions of wild flowers and licorice backed with rich bacony notes and flecks of black pepper. The wine is supple, balanced and just the slightest bit plush, but its latter palate tannins keep it tight and ageworthy.
