Medium red. Intensely spicy bouquet of strawberry, raspberry, anise and fresh bay, picking up smoky minerality with aeration. Tangy red fruit flavors combine depth with energy, offering silky texture and excellent clarity. Turns spicier and deeper on the finish, which is remarkably persistent and leaves behind a zesty bite of redcurrant. This is outstanding. (ST)
The Allen bottling typically needs time to come around. This ’06 shows the dusty tannins that close it down a bit in its youth, suggesting a good five years in the cellar. Silky and refined, it should evolve to a fine wine, with its cherry pie, mocha, cola and spice flavors. If you drink now, decant. Beautiful with a fine grilled steak.
**Outstanding** Here too the nose possesses really lovely aromatic depth with perhaps just a touch more elegance to the pure red pinot fruit trimmed in a bit of earth and spice notes that are also reflected by the delicious yet stylish and classy flavors that are underpinned by lacy tannins yet the palate impression is firm, all wrapped in a youthfully austere finish of solid length. The best in show in 2006.
From the well-known Allen Vineyard, the 2006 Pinot Noir Allen Vineyard is deep ruby in color, with a sweet nose of pomegranate, raspberry, and cherry, some spicy herbs, and some damp earth and underbrush, the wine has good acidity, medium to full body, and should age for 5-7 years. (RP)
Sweet-sour cherry and berry flavors are medium-bodied, crisp and refreshing, if a bit simple when it comes to depth and complexity. (Web-2009)
