This second label of Bond is so rich and opulent, it’s hard to believe it’s the least expensive of Harlan’s stable. Masses of cherries, blackberries, chocolate and vanilla-caramel new oak, accented with mint and herbs, leading to a refined, smoothly tannic finish. Just delicious.
The 2003 Matriarch, a blend from the lots selected from all of the vineyards used in the Bond program, reveals a forward, cedary, spicy, roasted herb-scented nose reminiscent of a top-notch Pauillac. Medium-bodied, fleshy, round and fully mature, this seductive 2003 is best drunk over the next 5-7 years. (RP)
