*CELLAR SELECTION* Dry and focused in acids, the wine shows the balance and complexity of the vineyard, as well as its ageworthiness. It’s very young now, with immature raspberry, cola, rum punch, balsamic, mushroom and Asian spice flavors, but decanting and slow warming in the glass help elevate it. Nonetheless, your best bet is the cellar. Best after 2008, and for many years after, depending on how old you like your wines.
Medium red. Potent raspberry, cherry, blackberry and mocha aromas, complicated by a seductive floral quality. A sweet, silky midweight with vivid red berry flavors framed by fine-grained tannins. A light dusty note appears on the finish, followed by an explosion of lush, almost jammy strawberry that lingers tenaciously. Utterly delicious pinot, with remarkably sweet and pure red fruit flavors. (ST)
*One star* Complexing touches of dried brush, cola and toast serve as accents to ongoing themes of pure, cherry-like fruit here, and, if at first seeming just a bit narrow, the wine slowly unwinds on the palate and builds to a very long finish. It is at once both fleshy and firm with integral acids affording a nice spark of brightness, and, although its balance guarantees a several years of further improvement, the ready impressions of refinement and grace and tasty young fruit are the makings of near-term enjoyment.
The medium-bodied 2005 Pinot Noir Allen Vineyard exhibits plenty of tart strawberry and cranberry fruit intermixed with notions of rose petals, wet stones, and high acidity. (RP)
