Inky ruby. High-pitched dark berry and cherry aromas show a slightly volatile quality. Deep, sappy blackberry and cherry-vanilla flavors display no rough edges and are complemented by a note of candied flowers. Rich and fleshy wine with strong finishing sweetness and a zesty kick of cracked pepper. This is extremely young but has very good material; I'd re-visit it after it's had a bit more bottle age.
Almost old-fashioned in its zesty combination of ripe berries, dried vanilla, hints of the earth and a wiry, tangy edge that adds to the wine's seeming rusticity, this one is full in body, ripe to the point of suggesting a bit of desiccation but also slightly pointed in character. Not likely to be mistaken for a nose-in-the-air wine, it needs to be partnered with long-cooked meats in savory sauces.
