93 points Wine Spectator: "Dense and chewy, with a tannic spine that holds sway over the black currant, fig and loganberry notes for now. Additional hints of charcoal, graphite and espresso frame the finish, but this will need time to fully integrate. Best from 2011 through 2030."-(4/30/08). 91+ points Robert Parker: "Surprisingly for this tannic, structured vintage, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes comes across as charming, with moderate but sweet tannin, good acidity, and plenty of sexy black currant and cherry fruit intermixed with hints of roasted herbs, loamy soil, and pepper. Ripe, medium to full-bodied, and more structured than the 2006, it should be at its finest between 2009 and 2020."-(10/07). 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Compelling bouquet of red berries, Asian spices and garrigue Plump and velvety, offering deep, sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and a deeper tapenade quality on the close. Flat-out delicious, with the balance to reward cellaring. But it would be no crime to drink this now."-(Jan/Feb 2008).
