From Turley’s new vineyard in Paso Robles, the 2003 Pesenti Vineyard (600 cases, 16% alcohol) comes across as one of the most Rhone Valley-like wines in the portfolio. Earthy, mineral, peppery, herbaceous notes intermixed with strawberry, cherry, and licorice emerge from this wine. (RP)

Medium ruby. Dark berries and fruity pepper on the nose. Sweet but bright, with firm acids giving the wine lovely vinosity. This shows sappier fruit than several of the foregoing zinfandels, and finishes with distinctly sweeter tannins and very good length. As high as the alcohol is, this wine does not come across as particularly sweet. From a vineyard that essentially stretches around the top of a hill. Winemaker Ehren Jordan noted that it was picked essentially from the top down, "like a wedding cake," over a period lasting from late September through late October, and that the vines here were better able to withstand the heat of the year. Perhaps a bit less sweet/sour than usual for this high-acid site. This has excellent depth of flavor. (ST)
