The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape les Quartz (85% Grenache and 15% Syrah) is another tour de force from this incredible vintage in the Southern Rhône. Ripe, full-bodied, supple and seamless, with sensational notes of roasted meats, incense, black currants, leather and spice, this beauty has tons of mid-palate depth, sweet tannin and a huge finish. It’s drunk nicely since release and will easily keep for another decade. (JD)
Really gorgeous, delivering layer upon layer of fig, boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry fruit, which stay polished and driven, while graphite, black tea and pastis notes fill in the background. Very rich, but supersilky, with great buried acidity. Drink now through 2029.
(85% grenache and 15% syrah) Glass-staining ruby. Vivid raspberry and mulberry scents are complemented by dried violet and licorice. Showing more vivacity than it did last year, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and showing no rough edges or obvious tannins. The finish repeats the dark berry and licorice notes and lingers with impressive persistence. (JR)
