K&L Notes

By now we know that cool, foggy nights and warm, sun-filled days are necessary for ripening ever-fickle Pinot Noir, which is why there are few places in California more suited to the grape than the Anderson Valley. Milla Handley's 2007 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a glassful of proof, boasting complex blue fruit aromatics tempered with softer, floral undertones. In the mouth the dark cherry acidity holds court mid-palate, held together with silky tannins for a long finish. The subtle nuances of this wine will only improve with age.

Wow! The answer to all non CA Pinot Noir believers! This wine is a great example of how California can produce elegant, high acid, balanced Pinot Noir. This wine exhibits light extraction, very bright fresh flavors of red berries and spice. Same savory sage and herbal notes with some sweet warm earth tones on back. Perfect for lighter game, even roasted or grilled Salmon. If you like less-ripe Oregon Pinot or Burgundy you should give this Anderson Valley offering from Handley a go, it might just impress you!

The 2007 Handley Pinot sure is tasting good now. Ripe blackberry and sweet black cherry aromas in the nose lead to a palate with a plush core of fruit and elegant body that is well-balanced by fine acids. After a few years in bottle, subtle baking earth and baking spice elements are seamlessy integrating into the layers of fruit. This is an elegant, yet completely approachable and satisfying wine.
