90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and winey, delivering anise, plum sauce and mulled currant fruit carried by a dark graphite note. The long finish stretches out as this airs in the glass, with enough racy fruit to offset the slight raisined hint. Drink now." (10/10) Produced from 70 year old vines in the Medrano district of Mendoza, vines which yield a tiny 1 lb of fruit per plant, the newest release of Quimera is, as always, a well structured, beautiful example of restraint in this Bordeaux styled blend of Malbec, Cab and Merlot. Deep currant fruit as well as some red fruit aromas lead to a tightly structured palate, that is primary (i.e. the fruit is prominent) as well as tense and framed by not only the youthful tannins, but good acidity as well. This is serious wine for the cellar - either decant for a few hours and enjoy with a steak, or check back in a few years.
