Mild reduction detracts slightly from the ripe and earthy dark berry fruit aromas where the middle weight flavors possess solid mid-palate density and while this is moderately well-structured, the tannins are surprisingly fine for what this is and I like the balance.
Cask sample. Restrained first impression. Peppery fresh black plums, becoming more meaty with time in glass. Then a great rush of power on the palate, tightly controlled and long, spicy oak overlay. Very very good if not yet voluptuous and can only get more perfumed and alluring. 18/20 points. (JH)
The Arnoux 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges smells of cherry distillate, black raspberry and meat juices, displays satsifyingly deep meatiness and ripe black fruits on the palate though with firm tannins and perhaps wanting a bit for distinctive personality, and finishes with restraint and a touch of bitterness. Medium-deep red. Explosive aromas of dark berries and spices. Juicy and firmly built, with lively acidity giving shape and verve to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. Pure and balanced village wine-an impressive start to the tasting. (ST)
