Tasting Notes

From the historic Louis Roque distillery located in the sleep town of Souillac. Imported by the legendary Charles Neal, Roque specializes in Vieille Prune from Gascony. Perhaps the finest in class, certainly the best of what's available in the states, the spirit is distilled using only the best Gascone Plums. With the depth of a cognac and the finesse of a plum brandy, this Vieille Prune has an unparalleled richness. Bursting with Asian spice and ripe fruit, you'll want to keep this one in stock once you've tried it.

I'm smitten with this fun little spirit from the north eastern part of the French Southwest. This plum brandy is one of the easiest to appreciate, but will impress even the most jaded brandy lover. Forward sweet oak proceeds and incredibly deep fruitiness. No heat on the palate, the powerful fruit feels like its been sweetened, but it's in fact very dry.

This has got to be one of the most interesting spirits that I have tasted in a long time. The Roque Vieille Prune is, however, more than interesting, it is very good. It has seductve prune aromas that lead to prune and aged cognac like flavors. The Roque Vieille Prune should delight and surprise even the most jaded spirits drinker.

A lot of bright notes, rich plummy medium notes, and few low notes. So, I think the distiller uses early entry and early exit cut points. Just how I like them. It preserves all the bright, pretty fruit though, true, it comes at the cost of some residual high-toned ester notes which some people might not like. I like esters though. Great digestif neat.
