The last offering from 2005 that readers should take seriously is the enormously endowed 2005 Petite Sirah. This wine is dark as a moonless night, full-bodied, with hints of incense, camphor, blueberry, and blackberry jam. This massive wine is probably best forgotten for at least 4-5 years, but wines like this can age effortlessly for 20-25 years. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this wine turn out to be gorgeous around 2020+. 95+ Points (RP)
Opaque purple. Explosively perfumed, with potent blackberry and mulberry aromas and a complicating mocha note. Lush, creamy and concentrated, with powerful dark berry flavors verging on liqueur-like. (Can 'purple' be a flavor?) But this is fresh and energetic, finishing on a spicy note, with outstanding clarity and length. Drink this lush, sexy wine on the young side for its vivacity.
Wild blueberry and blackberry flavors are ripe, thick and plush, with zesty notes of spice, white pepper, tobacco and cedar. Has great complexity, with a long finish. (JL)
