The 2008 Syrah Dry Creek is composed of 86% Syrah, 12% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, with the Viognier co-fermented and the Grenache blended in after malolactic. The wine exhibits sweet black cherry, raspberry, and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of camphor, incense, licorice, and subtle background oak. Full-bodied, juicy, seductive, and nearly addictive, this intriguing Syrah should be drunk over the next 7-8 years.
Deep ruby. Vibrant aromas of blackcurrant, menthol, mocha, chocolate and a whiff of violet. Juicy, spicy and high-pitched, with excellent energy and lift to the flavors of dark berries, mint and smoky Indian spices. I like this wine's restrained sweetness. Finishes with very good clarity and gentle tannic grip.
