The 2006 Zinfandel Pietro’s Ranch (from a vineyard planted in 1905, and in this blend, 85% Zinfandel and 15% mixed blacks) is perhaps my favorite wine of all the Zinfandels. Absolutely seamless, an example of Zinfandel haute couture, this stunningly proportioned wine exhibits a deep ruby purple color, a sweet nose of black raspberries, hints of Provencal herbs (or is it garrigue?) with some chocolate and other briery fruits. Full-bodied, rich, and long, this is a tour de force in Zinfandel that should drink beautifully for at least a decade. There were only 195 cases produced. (RP)
Deep ruby. Explosive blackberry and candied raspberry aromas are complicated by rose, violet and lavender. Juicy and fresh, with vibrant dark berry flavors, silky texture and a big jolt of baking spices on the back end. Impressively fresh, pure and sappy Zinfandel with outstanding finishing lift and thrust. (ST)
