The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a slightly more brooding and formidably endowed effort displaying more extract, tannin and structure. In spite of its massive size, concentration and extract, it possesses gorgeously sweet tannins as well as a sense of equilibrium. (RP)
A rich, savory style, thick and concentrated, offering firm cedar, black licorice, mineral and graphite, with a touch of espresso and tar. Full-bodied, chewy and complex, very backward now but sure to reward. (JL, Web Only—2011)
Utterly delicious, so soft and refined. It’s like blackberry and cherry pastries and cookies melted into wine, enhanced with squirts of cassis, anisette and chocolate sauce. Defines the California, and moreover the Pride Mountain, style, a flashy, flamboyant wine...
Full bodied, with dark chocolate, berry, and licorice. Very powerful and rich, with an in-your-face velvety style but I appreciate it. Nice and chewy, give this three of four years of bottle age. Pull the cork after 2014.
Full ruby. Somewhat stunted nose hints at blueberry, tar, licorice and a balsamic quality. Very rich but also firmly structured, showing a sweet/savory quality to the flavors of exotic black fruits, tar, mint, underbrush and sweet oak. This rather massive wine is still carrying substantial baby fat, making it a bit inscrutable today, but I suspect it will show more nuance with a few more years of bottle aging. Finishes with big tannins and excellent length. This wine began "really soft but then got very tannic," noted winemaker Johnson. (ST)
