This is the fourth vintage of Papillon from Orin Swift, the same Napa Valley winery that makes the ultra-popular wine, the Prisoner. Papillon is a Left Bank style Bordeaux blend, that combines 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc from grapes grown on Howell Mountain, as well as in St. Helena, Rutherford and Oakville. Aged for 16 months in French oak, the wine has heady cigar box, spice, cassis and lightly floral aromas. The fruit is fully fleshed out on the palate--raspberry, boysenberry, cherry and plum--with spicy oak influence, soft tannins and a long finish. If you like the Prisoner, but prefer Bordeaux varietals, this is your wine.
