Vivid red. Red- and blackcurrant aromas are complemented by smoked meat, potpourri and cola. The fresh palate offers nervy red berry flavors and a strong jolt of tangy minerals. More energetic in the mouth than on the nose, with excellent back-end clarity and snap. With air, this picked up a drop-dead sexy floral quality. Give this one some cellar time. (ST)
*Cellar Selection* A wonderful wine from one of the best vineyards in Anderson Valley. It’s a bit acidic and tannic now, the result of this cool vintage, but time in the bottle should soften and resolve the tartness and astringency. The wine itself is very dry, with flavors of cherries, cola, balsam, Asian spices and oak. Needs aging through at least 2012 to awaken it.
Its very obvious youth notwithstanding, this gregarious Pinot shows real complexity even now with layered aromas of red cherries, sweet oak and dried flowers and like-minded flavors that are charged by taut fruity acidity. That acid, however, proves a limiting factor in the latter going just now, and, while alive and zesty, the wine is also a touch cramped and curt. It may not be our first choice for long cellaring, but a couple of years smoothing are needed.
