The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Chaignots possesses notable freshness and verve while also showing the ripeness of the year, a very attractive combination. Freshly cut flowers, minerals and spices add energy and vibrancy to the dark red fruit. The Chaignots could use another year or two in bottle, but if opened in advance it is showing very, very well even today. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)
Graphite, lilac, game and slight vegetal notes augment the cherry core in this pungent, spicy red. Aromatic and silky, with firm tannins framing the long finish. Best from 2014 through 2022. (BS, Web-2012)
*Outstanding* This is a relatively fresh '09 with an expressive nose that offers up notes of plum, cassis and very ripe black berry liqueur notes. The attractively textured and very rich flavors are supple, round and supported by relatively fine tannins and plenty of mouth coating dry extract. I like the balance and overall sense of harmony of this seductively textured example though it's worth noting that some might find this to be just a little too ripe as there are hints of mocha on the finish.
Good full red. Very ripe, wild aromas of currant, plum and leather. Like liquid silk on the palate, with creamy-sweet flavors of currant, earth, iron, coffee and mocha. A round and seamless wine with strong smoke and earth tones and solid, building tannins. The rust-like iron quality repeats on the back end. Potential alcohols in 2009 were all 13.5+%, according to Bertrand Chevillon.
