92 points Robert Parker: "A beautiful effort is the deep purple-colored 2002 Merlot Peterson Family Vineyard. A big, sweet, chocolate, toffee, caramel, and dried herb-scented bouquet is followed by a round, generous Merlot exhibiting silky tannin as well as a sweet, rich finish." (02/05) 92 points Stephen Tanzer: "Saturated ruby-blue. Distinctly high-toned nose (this has VA of 0.8, according to winemaker Bob Foley) like a fruit liqueur: blackberry, blueberry and licorice. Then supersweet, fat and thick, with huge, creamy flavors of candied red fruits, blueberry and game. Distinctly liqueur-like yet somehow not heavy, despite alcohol in the low 15s. Finishes with big but sweet tannins that avoid the dryness and chalkiness shown by so much petite sirah. Very impressive wine, and best suited for drinking for its youthful fruit." (May/June 05) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Tightly focused on a core of vivid blackberry and wild berry fruit. Intense, complex and concentrated, it never veers from its core fruitiness. On the finish the tannins offer a fruity character." (2005)
