Vivid red. Strawberry, raspberry and spicecake on the nose, with a sexy sandalwood quality. In a distinctly vibrant style, with the sexy spice and red berry qualities following through in the mouth. Sappy and fine-grained wine, finishing on a suave note of candied flowers. This will be the last vintage for this wine.
A ripe and very pretty nose artfully blends both red and blue Pinot fruit that is trimmed in subtle violet and mint hints that leads to round and rich middle weight flavors that possess fine intensity and volume on the solidly long finish. This delicious offering could easily be enjoyed now but should also age well. Alesia Vineyards is the négociant complement of Rhys Vineyards (see herein), which is owned by Kevin Harvey with the wines made by Jeff Brinkman. The Sonoma Coast was vinified with 60% whole cluster. Note that 2008 will be the last vintage for this label as Harvey believes that the owned vineyards will supply sufficient fruit for their production requirements.
The 2008 Alesia Pinot Noir (1,000 cases produced) possesses tart acidity intertwined with sweet and sour cherry, plum, raspberry, and cola notes, and medium-bodied, earthy flavors displaying a hint of greenness as well as herbaceousness. About 50% whole clusters were used, and they do show through in the wine’s youthful state. (RP)
