Wonderful aromas of citrus fruit, blackberry and currant. Full-bodied, with Port-like flavors and chewy tannins. Super well-structured. Needs time to come together. (JS)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Silky, sexy, supple, and altogether a gorgeous effort from Haut-Batailley, the 1995 is a medium-bodied, seamless, beautifully pure Pauillac with gobs of black currant fruit intermixed with smoke, vanilla, and lead pencil. (RP)
Superb '95 Bordeaux! With all the hype surrounding Wine Spectator's wine of the year (Ducru Beaucaillou) it's no wonder that Haut-Batailley has been so popular and delicious. Jean-Eugene Borie owns and controls Haut-Batailley along with Ducru Beaucaillou and Grand-Puy-Lacoste. 90-92 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Tasted in a blind horizontal in September 2000. Another wonderful 1995. Dense compact nose of morello cherries, dates and chocolate. Dense multi-layered palate with depth complexity and class. Firm tannins. Harmonious and well-integrated. A wonderful wine for the vintage. Again blind for Wine International magazine in April 2005. A cedary, pine nose of moderate intensity, lacks some vigor. Faint aroma of burning embers. A fresh palate with good definition and acidity. Harmonious, backward and graceful. Very fine. A competent 1995 Pauillac." (12/1999)
