Neal Martin's notes: "First tasted in July 2000 where I find it 'a little chunky' and a Grand Puy Lacoste suitable for early drinking. Developing beautifully, showing delight pencil-lead and tobacco aromas by Oct-03, a 'classic' claret. Still great at the GPL vertical in June 2005. A very attractive cedar, pencil lead nose with excellent definition and focus. The palate has a soft entry, smooth and more velvety than other recent vintages. The Merlot really balances this wine out, makes it a more lush and sensuous GPL than normal. A great drinking 1997." (Wine Journal, eRobertParker.com)
