The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard saturates every corner of the palate with layers after layers of rich dark fruit, mocha, spices and licorice. This is a stunning To Kalon endowed with tons of site-specific character and nuance. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. (AG)
This is a pinnacle of the modern style of winemaking in Napa Valley. The tannins are strong but not aggressive. The acidity is just enough to provide balance for the tremendously rich blackberry, black currant, Kahlua and olive flavors. The oak is powerful, but the wine wears it easily. The finish is thoroughly dry, long and spicy.
Inky purple. The heady, impressively nuanced nose projects black and blue fruits, incense, vanilla and mocha, lifted by a note of candied rose. Wonderfully lush and sweet on entry, then spicy and energetic in the mid-palate, showing compelling depth and concentration to its blackberry, cassis and floral pastille flavors. Finishes smooth and very long, with lingering spicy sweetness and gentle, harmonious tannins. (ST)
Big, rich and concentrated, with a gutsy yet soothing core of tannic currant, blackberry, black licorice, fresh earth, cedar and graphite. Very young and tightly wound, this is not quite ready to drink and should only get better with time. Best from 2014 through 2024. (JL, Web-2012)
