Outgoing aromas of ripe cherries and dried flowers are given a real lift in richness by plenty of rich oak here, and this weighty offering's deep, well-extracted flavors follow in kind. There is a bit of velvet beginning to show, yet there is also a fair measure of tannin coming on at the finish, and things presently end on a slightly tougher note. The wine recalls the solidity of northerly Côte de Nuits Burgundies, and, if a wee bit gruff just now, it is very well-filled, and it seems sure to find refinement if allowed to sit quietly for three or four years.
This is an easy, all-purpose Pinot despite some fairly hefty tannins. It glides over the tongue carrying cola, cherry, rhubarb, heirloom tomato and smoky flavors, and finishes dry.
Very complete and focused, with a tight, structured band of earthy cherry, raspberry, blackberry and floral notes that are well-proportioned, finishing with excellent structure and depth.
