Made with 19% Merlot, this Cabernet's tannins are quite hard and firm, giving it a tight astringency. Even so, the underlying fruit is so powerful, it breaks through in a mouthburst of blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries and an oaky, smoky richness that's almost chocolaty. A very fine, intense and ageworthy wine that should develop bottle complexity over the next decade or more. *Cellar Selection*
Nicely fruited aromas of black cherries, cocoa and lightly toasty oak give this wine a rich, ripe-leaning start, and it follows in kind on the palate where its full body and supple feel encompass flavors that are forward and somewhat red cherryish to start before becoming fairly gritty and grippy from alum-like tannins at the back end. Its needs four to five years of cellaring and will be bettered by it.
A dense, chewy, concentrated wine, this is firm and full-bodied, offering a mix of graphite, mocha, espresso, dried currant and mineral. The tight finish begs for cellaring. Best from 2012 through 2022. (JL)
