The richest and most unctuous of the 2012 Tors, this is bold and layered, with complex fig, apricot, smoke, anise and butterscotch notes. Showy and appealing, intense and well-built, balanced by citrus-tinged acidity. Drink now through 2020.
Pale yellow-green. More exotic on the nose than the Hudson Chardonnay, offering scents of overripe peach and tangerine. Sweet and ripe on entry, even a bit warm, then firmer on the back half, with green melon and wild herb flavors lifted by an aromatic note of mint oil. A more fruity version than the comparatively mineral-driven 2011 and 2010--but then I suspect that this is typical of these three vintages. Finishes with a note of bitter lemon. All these wines are bottled without fining or filtration. I'd cellar this one for at least a year or two.
The 2012 Chardonnay Torchiana Beresini Vineyard has a little more brightness and focus than the Hudson. Lemon oil, mint, flowers, crushed rocks and white flowers all take shape in the glass. The style is bright, nuanced and chiseled, with tons of energy and pure class. I very much like the sense of drive here. (Antonio Galloni)
